HOME Hooks and My Thoughts on Color

What is your favorite color?  I get asked that question often by the sweet little kids that I occassionally sunstitute teach for.  And I don't usually have an answer for that, but I tell them something because they can't fathom not having a favorite.

I really don't know what my favorite is, it changes.  What I do know is color makes me happy.  I know I have said that before, but it is true.

And this spring (I know it is not spring yet, just getting prepared for when it does arrive!)  I am digging this new color scheme.  Sorry pantone vibrant orchid color of the year--not biting on that one.

Oh, and I know you are going to ask me what colors these are.  The green is called scent of semillion (a semillion is a grape used in wine making).  The other three were mixed, part craft acrylics, part latex so they are "custom" Becky colors.

PICK COLORS YOU LOVE!  Sorry, I didn't mean to shout that at you, but it is my best advice. Go to the paint store and peruse the kajillions of color card samples.  Take a favorite blouse or piece of fabric and match the colors.  Use colors that speak to YOU, not to me, not to the "color of the year experts".

Today, this week, month, year, who knows how long the love will last-- these blues and greens, greys and taupes are my favorite.  I painted them on a piece of reclaimed barnwood. I have some thin pieces of masonite screwed to the back of the board since it is old and wanting to split.

I didn't tape these squares off, just painted and eye-balled it.

I stenciled the letters and added hooks. These hooks are some new metal ones I found online--I love that when I paint them, they rust just a little.

  3. Very pretty! You're right, go with what you love, and I'm loving that one of Pantone's colors this year is purple- I want to stock up on accessories while I can. :)

  4. I love this. I like how you added the coat hooks. Makes a really nice coat rack. I really love your painting technique. I made a rustic coat rack a while back, but I think I needed to sand it more to get a look more like yours. I love how you used the different color blocks for each letter. Thanks for sharing!
